Once you have identified your career pathway, prepare yourself by taking entry-level training to qualify for that career, then continue to build your qualifications by taking progressively more advanced training.

What are the admission requirements for a post-secondary program?

Regardless of what type of post-secondary program you decide to pursue, you will need to meet the institution’s admission requirements. Following is a list of requirements typically required to be admitted to post-secondary programs. However, every program is different and will have a set of requirements. You should ask a representative of the program you are interested in for their specific admission requirements. (Vicki Berling)

High School Diploma or GED: It is common for post-secondary programs to require proof that you completed high school or the equivalent. Typically, you must provide documentation of your completion, such as a high-school transcript or your GED completion document. Kentucky Adult Education provides a list of local GED providers; you can earn a GED for free by working with them.

Language Proficiency: Some programs require participants to demonstrate they can communicate in English. There are many ways to prove your proficiency. Many people start by taking a class. There are many options available. In Northern Kentucky, consider these options:

  • Math Readiness: In some programs, participants must show that they have a specific aptitude for or skill in math. There are many ways to prove your proficiency, including taking a standardized test and completing a course. You should ask your admission counselor about math requirements.

If you are interested in a program but do not meet their admission requirements, ask a program representative what to do to become eligible to enter the program. Often, there are classes you can take to become eligible.
